This Sunday, you can listen to the very first Bergen Kjøtt Studio Session here on Vers Libre. The studio sessions are organised to promote safe social distancing, thorough hygiene, individual studio use and re-thinking use of the public spaces at Bergen Kjøtt during and beyond coronavirus (COVID-19).

Bergen Kjøtt is a cultural centre, creative workplace and production house in Bergen, committed to supporting a diverse, experimental and responsive cultural scene in the city.
Bergen Kjøtt houses a creative community of over 150 musicians, producers and visual artists. The Bergen Kjøtt Studio Sessions unite - from a distance - different configurations of studio holders in a regular series of broadcast live music sessions. Bringing you new musical collaborations, improvisations and creations to home isolation.

Benedicte Maurseth is a Norwegian folk musician, composer and writer. She started playing the Hardanger fiddle at eight years old with Knut Hamre, with traditional music from Hardanger as her specialty. Maurseth has collaborated with many artists such as Jon Fosse, Svein Tindberg, Anne Marit Jacobsen, Knut Hamre, Berit Opheim and Nils Økland. Maurseth has composed music for the stage version of Jon Fosse’s Andvake at Det Norske Teatret in 2009 and for Morgon og kveld at Nationaltheatret in 2015. In 2014 Maurseth debuted as an author with her book: “Å vera ingenting – Samtalar med spelemannen Knut Hamre”.
Øyvind Hegg-Lunde is a drummer and composer living in Bergen. He is active in several projects including Building Instrument, Erlend Apneseth Trio, Electric Eye, Strings & Timpani, José Gonzalez’s band Junip, Susanne Abbuehl. He has collaborated with other art forms including dance, poetry, theatere, performance art and VJs. He has a Masters in jazz/improvised music and has developed projects with Arve Henriksen, Trygve Seim, Nils Petter Molvær, Frode Haltli, Eivind Aarset.
Øyvind Skarbø is a drummer, composer and producer based in Bergen. He studied with Terje Isungset from 2004-06, and studied Norwegian, Cuban and Yoruba traditional music. Øyvind has performed on 28 albums, and played in 28 countries with some of the top jazz musicians in the world, including Håkon Kornstad, Kris Davis and Fredrik Ljungkvist. In 2016 he received Vossajazz Prize. His band Skarbø Skulekorps, for which he also writes all the music, released its widely praised debut album on the Hubro label in 2019.
Stephan Meidell is a musician/composer/curator/producer involved in multiple projects ranging from the contemporary-folk-jazz group Erlend Apneseth Trio, audiovisual project “Trigger” to installation work with robots playing acoustic instruments in Meidells Musikkmaskin. He has written and co-written several commissioned works and is currently doing a PhD in Artistic Research at the Grieg Academy/KMD.
Mari Kvien Brunvoll is one of Norway’s leading improvisers in song and various eclectic instruments. A graduate of Grieg Academy in Bergen, Brunvoll has performed solo and in groups at some of Europe’s best jazz clubs and festivals and released twisted albums on labels like Jazzland Recordings and Hubro. Mari Kvien Brunvoll is also part of the trio Building Instrument.
Birk Nygaard runs his own business, BN Visuals, an artist, technician and creative. From his studio at Bergen Kjøtt he creates expressions through lights, laser, video and scenography. Together with other artists, musicians, composers, directors for film and theatre he puts these expressions together to create multi-disciplinary experiences for the audience. Most recently, he has become well known for his work with bands such as Ulver, High as a Kite and Side Brok. Birk is also the creative head for the development of Bergen’s own Light festival, Bergen Lights.
Martin Smoge is a music producer, film composer and a partner of Duper Studio A/S. Duper Studio offer recording, mixing and mastering expertise from their studios in Bergen Kjøtt, and have worked with some of Norway's biggest artists.
Silje Heggren is a visual artist and art historian, with her studio at Bergen Kjøtt. Silje sits on the board of Kunstgarasjen and Stifelsen Bergen Kjøtt on behalf of the Foreningen Bergen Kjøtt. Silje’s large-scale paintings feature eternity machines, flying constructions, time crystals and utopian cities, referencing Russian constructionism, pop art and surrealist children's TV. Silje’s work is part of the Norwegian Arts Council, KODE and Statoil's art collections.
